GET INVOLVED IN THE KALAMUNDA COMMUNITY WITH ROTARY
Most people have probably heard of Rotary before, but unless they've been a member of a Rotary Club, they may not know exactly what a Rotary Club does or how they could get involved.
Each Rotary club undertakes different kinds of projects but here in Kalamunda, these are the types of projects that we've been involved in.
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
FOODBANK
Every December the Club along with our Rotaractors and the local Soropitimists club collect food for Foodbank. You might have seen us set up outside the local shopping centre throughout the area, where we are privileged to experience the generosity of local residents to this important cause.
FoodBank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, working with 2,950 charities around the country to get food and groceries to those who could use a hand every year. They are also the largest supporter of School Breakfast Programs in Australia, regularly supplying to 2,890 schools nationally.
PERTH OBSERVATORY SEATING
In support of the 2026- 2028 Sky Sculpture Park and the Perth Observatory, Kalamunda Rotary provided funds for the Kalamunda Men's Shed to design and manuafacture 10 bench seats to be installed on the grounds of the observatory.
Club members assisted with the concept and design which will create places for the community to sit and enjoy the sculptures and night sky in comfort.
The Perth Sky Sculpture Park will draw many visitors to the area over the 2 year event with local artists in the spotlight.
KALAMUNDA LAPIDARY CLUB
A $10,000 Community Grant was awarded to the KLC to help improve the workshop facilities and support their growing membership.
With increasing interest in lapidary, polishing, faceting and jewellery making, this funding will allow them to refurbish and modernise part of the workshop, creating a safer and more efficient space for members to learn and practise their craft.
LOCAL SCHOOL & STUDENT SUPPORT
Our Youth Committee is privileged to offer the Rotary Youth Exchange Student program as well as leadership camps and annual Primary School Encouragement Awards.
Connecting with Parent & Citizen groups, the club supports local schools to ensure that all students have what they need to learn with school packs, stationary supplies and school uniforms for those most in need.
LOCAL ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMS
Supporting the Friends of Upper Lesmurdie Falls and the Friends of Whistlepipe Gully groups with funding and volunteers is creating a positive impact on our local environment with the removal of invasive weeks and the rehabilitation of native flora.
Kanyana Wildlife and Karrakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre receive grants to improve their facilities and educational programs.
CHRISTMAS LIGHTS COMPETITION
Our Community Committee brings businesses and residents together each year for the Christmas Light Competition, encouraging shopfronts to be decorated with Christmas cheer.
Supported by the City of Kalamunda, the annual event attracts hundreds of people to the area to shop for loved ones and enjoy the activities.
YOUTH PROGRAMS
Since its inception, Kalamunda Rotary has made a difference to people's lives in many ways, but our proudest achievements have been the opportunities we've been able to offer the motivated young people in our community.
Exchange Students
Rotary Youth Exchange Australia provides an opportunity of a lifetime for Australian high school students to live and study abroad.
We have sponsored many students in the Rotary exchange program both inward and outward bound. This experience changes young people’s lives and helps shape their future.
This program offers students the opportunity to spend up to 12 months living and studying in a foreign country, learning about themselves and the culture of their host families.
We also offer many local opportunities for growth through other Rotary sponsored programs as outlined below:
RYPEN is designed for those students who just need a bit of a push and a confidence boost to start achieving their full potential.
During the weekend students are encouraged to: learn to understand themselves and others and manage their relationships, lives, work, and learning more effectively.
RYLA
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organised by Rotary clubs and districts where leadership skills are developed while having fun and making connections with other like minded young people.
RYLEAP - (Rotary Leader Extension Advanced Program)
An intensive program for people serious about learning cutting edge leadership skills. Participants will walk away with a heightened sense of self-empowerment and a clear pathway to achieving their goals by undertaking a 3 month mapped out action plan. Participants completing the RYLEAP program receive a Certificate 1 in Leadership. RYLEAP will help take participants' leadership to the next level and will be a powerful tool in building their career.ere
National Youth Science Forum
The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) is a not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of residential programs to encourage young people in their passion for science.

The program’s vision and purpose is to inspire young Australians to value science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and recognise its importance in our communities.e
Encouragement Awards
The annual Encouragement Awards are offered to a Year 6 student from each Primary School in the City of Kalamunda with the award presented at the end of school year graduation.

The award acknowledges the student who has put a great deal of effort into their schoolwork and displays a good attitude, despite facing academic challenges. This award is seen as a reward for persistence.
